Sometimes musicians just happen to stumble into success, but singer-songwriter Hannah Georgas — in Toronto this week to play NXNE — went to great lengths, literally, to achieve her current success.
Georgas picked up and left her hometown of Newmarket, ON when she was 20 years-old simply to push herself out of her comfort zone. She attended university in Victoria, BC, but decided she had to be somewhere bigger to pursue her career as a musician, opting to settle in nearby Vancouver.
While living in Western Canada, she won a songwriting contest which earned her recording time and a photo shoot. It was almost as if fate had cleared a path for her to end up where she belonged.
“The one thing that makes complete sense for me is [making music],” she tells Spinner. “It just makes me the happiest.”
